Prolapse Treatment in London: Prolapse physiotherapist (Cystocele)
What is a Prolapse?
Prolapse, literally meaning “to fall out of place”, is caused by weakening of tissues that supports the pelvic organs or the pelvic floor muscles, resulting in one or more of the pelvic organs pushing against the wall of the vagina.
Pelvic organs include your bladder, uterus and rectum. They are held in place by tissue and the supported from below by the pelvic floor muscles. Weakening of this tissue and muscle may result in prolapse, which will cause discomfort during sex and problems passing urine.

More Information About Prolapse
Why do i have a Prolapse?
Their is few reason why a woman can have a prolapse depending of your age and condition.
- The strain of childbirth, which weakens the pelvic floor. It is not uncommon and it affects up to 50% of women giving childbirth, to some degree.
- Weakening of pelvic floor muscles in older women, who have gone through menopause.
- Being overweight.
What are the exercises to reduce Prolapse?
Most of the exercises use to treat Prolapse are similar to pelvic floor rehabilitation exercises. Most of the exercises are linked to a good abdominal breathing and to the awareness of your pelvic muscles. Once you feel which muscle needs to be contracted, the physio will then increase the strength and length of the exercises until your prolapse has reduced.
Do I need Surgery if i has a Prolapse?
No, No and No! Prolapse doesn’t need surgery except if your prolapse is very important. We classify Prolapse in different grades. Unless your prolapse is very important, prolapse physiotherapy will be able to reduce your prolapse without any surgery. If your prolapse grade is important the physio will discuss with you the different options before looking into prolapse surgery
